CHILDREN

We utilize play therapy to meet the therapeutic needs of children. Play therapy is an evidence-based, developmentally appropriate approach and is a child’s natural medium of self-expression; play therapy provides children with the opportunity to ‘play out’ their feelings and problems just as in certain types of adult therapy individuals ‘talk out’ their difficulties. At Embrace Counseling and Wellness, PLLC, we first meet with parents for an intake session to discuss your child’s presenting concerns and explain play therapy. After meeting with parents, the child and therapist will meet with the child for weekly play sessions. Play therapy can help increase your child’s ability to have self-control, facilitate decision making, validate their feelings and experiences, and allow for your child to express their feelings in an acceptable way. Play therapy can be helpful in addressing the following concerns: academic and behavioral concerns, child-parent relationship concerns, trauma, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, sibling conflict, etc. We provide parent education to strengthen the child-parent relationship.

We also provide diagnostic testing and evaluation for children and adolescents. We offer a wide range of assessment batteries intended to gather information to answer diagnostic questions you or your child’s teachers may have about your child's academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral functioning. Results can provide directives in regard to academic decisions and will always provide recommendations for parents and teachers in how to best meet children’s unique academic needs. If you find yourself struggling in your relationship with your child and/or are concerned about their emotional or behavioral expression, we can help.
